HOMER Cookie Policy
Last updated: November 28, 2024
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored in the user's browser when using the HOMER application. They may contain information such as session identifiers, user preferences, or authentication tokens.
2. What cookies do we use?
HOMER takes a minimalist approach to cookies, in line with our 'privacy-first' philosophy. We only use cookies that are essential for the application to function.
2.1. Functional cookies (essential)
| Name | Purpose | Type | Expiration |
|---|---|---|---|
admin_token | JWT token for administrator session | httpOnly, secure, sameSite: lax | 24 hours |
homer_cookie_consent | Remembers cookie consent | localStorage | no expiry date (removed by the user) |
NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers language preference | cookie, sameSite: lax | until the browser is closed (session cookie) |
2.2. localStorage and session storage (local data)
In addition to cookies, HOMER stores the following data in the browser. It stays on your device. Some items are sent to the server only when you use the related feature, as described for each item:
- homer_pro_license: PRO license key stored on this device. It is sent to the server when the license status is checked (home and pricing pages, when a license is stored), when you activate a license, and when you create a message or attachment that uses PRO features. The server checks it against the license key registry.
- keymes_messages: Local list of sent messages for the '/sent' page: room ID, label, creation and expiry times, last known status and the sender status link. The link contains the sender token and the message encryption key (the part after #). When you check the status of a message or cancel it, the browser sends the room ID and the sender token to the server; the part after # is never sent. Expired entries are removed automatically. You can delete it at any time.
- homer_device_id: Random device identifier (UUID v4), created in the browser when a PRO license is stored or activated on this device. It is sent to the server together with the license key when the status is checked, when a license is activated, and when a message or attachment with PRO features is created. The server stores only a SHA-256 hash of it, used to bind the license to the device.
- homer-apicache:* (sessionStorage) short-lived cache of public site data (themes, ads, Golden List, YouTube channels), valid for 60 seconds. It contains no message content and is cleared when the tab is closed.
3. Cookies we DON'T use
HOMER does NOT use the following types of cookies:
- Analytics cookies: We do not use Google Analytics, Matomo, or similar tools.
- Advertising cookies: We do not track user behavior for ad targeting purposes.
- Social media cookies: We do not integrate Facebook Pixel, Twitter Analytics, etc.
- Tracking cookies: We do not track users across websites or devices.
4. Managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Please note that blocking essential cookies may affect the functionality of the application.
5. Changes to this policy
We reserve the right to update this Cookie Policy. Significant changes will be communicated through the application.
